Thursday, August 9th - Rowheath 5k
The third and last race in the Rowheath 5k series was incorporated into the Warwickshire Road Race League, ensuring a bumper turnout and an excellent, competitive race. The men's race was won by Chris Cook of Nike Portland in 15:14 and the ladies' race by Birchfield Harrier, Bev Hartigan, in 16:45, a course record.
Kim Elliott took the ladies' runners up spot with a fine 17:19, with Paul and Tony H leading home a large contingent of Centurion men. Perhaps the most encouraging aspect from our viewpoint were the junior results with Centurions filling the first three places, courtesy of Colin Eckloff, Michael Williams and fast improving Adam Jones. However, not to be outdone, our oldest competitor, John Toy, smashed the course record for his age group, over 65, with an excellent 21:08
Birmingham Rowheath and race organiser Richard Carney, in particular, deserve great credit for putting on such a fine summer race series over a testing 2-lap course. Each race is a straightforward, no-frills event, carried out with a minimum of fuss in a friendly atmosphere. Just how road races should be!
In the Warwickshire League standings, Centurions are in the remarkable position, after 4 races, of being first or second (or both) in nearly every category! The last two races are both 10-milers - September 16th at Nuneaton and October 14th at Rugby. Let's make sure of the best possible turnout.

Sunday, April 15th - Massey Ferguson Easter 5
This year's Massey Easter 5 saw a terrific Centurion turn-out, no doubt attracted by the scenic delights of a 5 mile run through the, er, Massey Ferguson tractor factory. Yes, this year's course was somewhat unusual, to say the least, with the organisers forced to find an alternative course thanks to local roadworks. It was still a very enjoyable event, though - as always.
Preston and Kim (now there's a surprise!) were first Centurion man and lady, respectively. Preston was ably backed up by Paul, Gary and Andy R to record a men's team position of 5th. Altogether, we fielded a total of 18 men across all the age groups. The ladies turnout was a little smaller - just 2 - but what they lacked in quantity they made up for in quality, with Kim recording a fine 3rd place.
